Hello World.
Happy Monday – I hope your week is off to a great start.
This past weekend marked the one month anniversary of Liv Your Style, which I’m pretty darn proud of! I know I have missed posts here and there, but for the most part, I have been able to keep this blog going and I’m happy to call it my own.
This blog is fairly new, and anything new constitutes change – so I’m still adjusting to its frequent upkeep.
Speaking of change, it’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. So much has been going on around me, summer is coming to an end, friends are coming and going, nothing is really constant.
I guess the scariest change I’m looking at is my 21st birthday in 22 days. Most people would think I’m crazy for being afraid, but really 21 is the last important birthday, and it’s only up (or down) hill from here.
I am really and truly not a kid anymore. Everything is coming full swing, and there’s no running away from it. It’s like being swept up in an ocean wave and trying to fight your way through the current.
You’re stuck in this forward motion and there is only one way to go.
I’ve never been a huge advocate of change, not saying it’s something I can’t handle when it happens, just things always seem to change right when your getting used to them.
And there’s nothing you can do about it. You can’t stop the change from happening, its inevitable, you just need to take it as it comes.
So it’s a scary part of life figuring out what your supposed to hang on to – especially as the chapters are flying like someone took a fan and aimed it at your life’s novel.
Friends leave as quickly as they entered. Relationships end as though they never began.
And you sit there wishing to hang on to all the things you once had, that are just slipping through your fingertips.
As people, we dwell on what we’ve lost, but do we ever really appreciate what’s always been there?
Many things change, but what is important will always stay.
Like a family. They won’t leave you when the going gets tough, and when it comes their time to leave, they are forever in your heart and can never be taken away from you.
Like a memory. The place you played as a child may have changed scenery, but your childhood memory never will. It can’t be taken away from you and is one of the most powerful things you possess.
Because in the blink of an eye you can return to that moment and relive it again.
You may not be able to hold on to the things that change, but the key is to breathe them in, in the moment. Remember the way they looked, or felt, or even smelled. You only have one chance to take it in, so take everything you can.
Sometimes you don’t need something forever, if you can just remember it by a piece that once was.
We waste too much time holding on to the things we’ve lost, while what we should be doing is closing our eyes to find them again.
And hey, somethings are better off gone. Some of the things you have now you may have never gotten if you didn’t let go of something else along the way.
So weigh the importance, and never forget to appreciate the comings and goings of life.
It’s too short, and you’ll hear that often, so never think of anything as lost, think of it as something left to find.
